TARJA TURUNEN On Terrorist Attacks In Europe: 'You Can't Live In Fear'

Metal-Heads.de conducted an interview with former NIGHTWISH frontwoman Tarja Turunen at this year's Wacken Open Air festival, which was held August 4-6 in Wacken, Germany. You can now watch the chat below.

Asked if the recent spate of terrorist attacks in Europe have made her more concerned that something like that could happen at one of her concerts, Tarja said: "The last time, it was not a terrorist attack, but what happened in Munich sometime ago… We were just in Cologne, myself, and I was having coffee with my family and started to [wonder], 'Why are there so many cops around us?' And I just took my phone and I checked the news, and it was happening at the time. Obviously, it gave me some feelings of… not that nice feelings in general. And it's been happening around. You never know. And as I have been talking with Wacken organizers also that they needed really to take care this year that more and more, because of this kind of mass events that are dragging so many people."

She continued: "But you can't live in fear in that sense. As a performer, I would get totally nuts if I would think about those kind of things when I get on a stage.

"I am a visible person, obviously. Even my family, they are with me everywhere. They are here. I can't think that anything bad would happen to them. It obviously would be hard to bear. But I still think we should think of the positive things in life rather than the negative. Unfortunately, life is too short."

Tarja's new heavy rock album, "The Shadow Self", was released on August 5 via earMUSIC.

Turunen also issued the new album's prequel, "The Brightest Void", containing over 50 minutes of new music.

Tarja stated about the two albums: "I am sure that everyone will immediately discover how much 'The Brightest Void' and 'The Shadow Self' are entwined with each other but, at the same time, are two independent records which stand on their own."
